About Mary (Tuck) Cropper, Convict “Lady Juliana” 1790
Mary Tuck was born 1734c, was convicted and 24th October 178, received 7 yrs transportation and was placed in Middlesex gaol, later to be transported as a convict on board the 'Lady Julianna".
She then went onto Norfolk Island where she 'took up with' John Cropper following the death of Frances Williams (sometime around 1801).
In 1805 John Cropper is listed as a settler with a wife (Mary) and one child. It appears they may have taken in Jane Williams as she would have only been 10 at the time of her mother Frances' death. Mary also received her Ticket of Leave (TOL) in 1805.
On 25th December 1807, with the penal settlement being closed and the iusland evacuated, John Cropper and his wife Mary (Tuck) leave the island on board the 'Porpoise'.
In 1808 John Cropper, Mary and a son John (listed as Edward) arrived in Van Diemans Land on board the 'Porpoise'. John is granted 20 acres at Sandy Bay (near what is now known as Long Point).
In 1823 John is granted 20 acres of land at Drummond Tasmania, but transfers ownership to a Joseph Johnson at Green Ponds.
On 21st July 1824 John and Mary (Tuck) lose everything in a fire and are left penniless - paupers. John was aged 86 and Mary 90.
On 6th November 1825 Mary Tuck dies in Hobart aged 92 and is buried at St Davids Church. As she was a pauper at the time of her death, there may NOT have been a headstone.
It is unsure at this time when/where John died.
