About Mary Adeline Walker
GEDCOM Note
Andy Andrews of Chiefland thought that Mary A. Walker might have married a Burton in the 1870s in jefferson County. I found a marriage certificate for a G. A. Burton who married a Mary A. Andrews in 1877. There is also a Mary A. burton, widow of German A. Burton in the city directory of Montgomery, Alabama in 1897. She may be buried up there. But I believe this is not our Mary Andrews anyway. Below is why. There is a German A. Burton and also a Mary Ann Burton in the 1880 Jefferson County, Florida census. He is 41 and she is 23. This woman is too young to be our Mary Andrews. They are also in the 1885 census as G. A. Burton, page 41 and M. A. Burton, age 30. This is definitely not our Mary Andrews, too. I have looked in the Jefferson county, florida marriage records for two other possible marriage leads. Some believe that the grave of Mary A. shackle ford in Madison County, FL is our Mary A. Andrews. I looked for a marriage record for shackleford and a Mary, and I found where a Shackleford married Mary Mathers in 1864. I did look to see if there was a Mathers male married to a Mary Andrews or a Mary Burton, Reynolds or Shackleford, but there were none. Some thought that Mary's death date was Jan. 14, 1898, but this is the death date of Mary Shackleford. I'm fairly certain this is not our Mary. A Wesley E. Pippenger rsearched for another client informaiton on William H. Andrews. Here is what he told me. That the marriage of William H. Andrews to Elizabeth Binns could not be proven by a public record, and the evidence that he saw was a bible record to this effect. This evidence was written in the fashion which supports the Virginia tradition of women having multiple given names --that Binns wasn't her surname but a middle name. His proposal was that Elizabeth Binns was really Elizabeth Binns Goff, daughter of Adam Goff of Loudoun County, VA and that she had a sister named Hannah Binns Goff who was also married. William H. Andrews, he said was apparently the son of Bejamin Andrews and wife Elizabeth Davis based on a brief record in a DC Catholic church. That was all he had at the moment. I believe he wanted me to hire him to look further into the issue. Records in the Jefferson County Courthouse show that Mary A. Andrews purchased two parcels of property in the early 1860s. One was south of Monticello, now south of I-10 and could have been used for farmland. The other was in town just past the east city limits sign on the south side of US 90 (about where the Roe property is now maybe?) There is a license to permit the marriage issued on december 20,k 1843. Then the marriage itself was December 21, 1843. It was recorded on December 23, 1843.
