Born in Thomas, Custer County, Oklahoma, she was nicknamed "Skeeter" or "Spud" during her school years. She attended Nampa Senior High School in Nampa, Canyon County, Idaho, where she graduated on May 28, 1931. She loved to sing and was a member of the glee club for several years. Mary was a jewelry salesperson in Tacoma, Washington, for many years (about 1948 - 1980). She worked at Weisfield's Jewelers, LeRoy Jewelers, Austin Jewelers, J.C.Penny, Freidlander's, and the Diamond Shop. After the death of their daughter Donna (age 30), Mary and Leo helped to raise two of their grandchildren, Cindy (Cynthia) and Steve. After retirement, Mary and Leo sold their house in Lakewood (Tacoma), bought a mobile home in a senior mobile home park in Tacoma and spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona, and their summers in Tacoma. After Leo passed away, Mary continue to winter in Mesa until 1994, the winter before her death. Mary loved to play pinochle and bingo. She suffered from osteoporosis and breast cancer. She was 5'8" tall.
