Biography

"Mary was the eldest daughter of Judge John Woodman by his first wife." [1]857%2C470%3B737%2C1139%2C813%2C1217&pId=155

Mary Woodman was born abt. 1660 at Dover, Strafford, New Hampshire.

"Administration was granted to his widow, July 8,1702...…..She purchased after her husband's death from John Smith and Daniel Hamilton a tract of land at Tom's Neck, where she probably brought up her family.(Josiah Paine papers) She removed to Harwich and later, before 1717, returned with most of her family to Oyster River….. She was living at Oyster River, then Durham, as late as 1742, when she conveyed. land there to some grandsons. [They were, specifically, Edward Small and Jos. Small. Interestingly, she states that 20 acres of land was given her by the selectmen of Dover for doctoring one Archibel Smith.] Her son Edward and daughter Elizabeth remained in Monomoit, Jonathan settled in Harwich and Zachariah and Benjamin afterwards returned and settled in Harwich."

Mary (Woodman) Small was named in a deed: Jonathan Woodman, for "ye Natural Love & affection wch I have & bear to my Sister Mary Small of Moniemay", conveyed to her twenty acres of land on the "South Side of Oyster River Betwixt ye Mill Pond & ye River". This deed was not recorded until September 4, 1744.[2]
