https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/174747544/mary-bacon claims that her marriage to John Hartshorn is in error. With her first husband, David Wood, passing in 1744 per Boxford Vital Records (http://ma-vitalrecords.org/MA/Essex/Boxford/cDeathsW.shtml "(Wood) David, Esq., Aug. 30, 1744, in his 67th y") this Mary Spofford could not have married John Hartshorn in 1709. Also, she gave birth in Boxford in November 1709. (http://ma-vitalrecords.org/MA/Essex/Boxford/cBirthsW.shtml "(Wood) [Da. BC]ved, s. Daved and Marey, Nov. 19, 1709")
http://ma-vitalrecords.org/MA/Essex/Rowley/cBirthsS.shtml "(Spofford) Mary (Spofard), d. John and Sarah, May 4 [9. CTR], 1680"
http://ma-vitalrecords.org/MA/Essex/Rowley/cMarriagesS.shtml "(Spofford) Mary (Spoford), and David Wood of Boxford, int. Feb. 5, 1701-2"
Note: no death or burial record has been found for Mary, though she was living in 1749. It is reasonable that her children had her buried with her first husband, but she also may have been buried in Plymouth where her second husband lived (and perhaps preached).
Mary was baptized in Rowley, Mass. 27 June 1680, the daughter of John Spofford and Sarah Wheeler of Rowley. She married David WOOD, the son of Daniel Wood and Sarah Andrews of Topsfield and Boxford, Mass. The printed Boxford Vital Record gives the date of the marriage intention as 5 Feb, but the original handwritten record gives the date as 15 Feb. Mary and David had seven known children.
This Mary, the daughter of John and Sarah Spofford, did NOT marry John Hartshorn (in 1707 or 1709, based on two different records), as claimed in an early Spofford genealogy. John Hartshorn was a much older man, born about 1650, and Mary Spofford was his third wife. She was likely a widow, and in fact may have been Mary Liton, the widow of Thomas Spofford, who died in 1706.
Following David's death, Mary married in Plymouth 5 May 1748 (later recorded in Boxford as 22 June 1749) Rev. Jacob BACON of Plymouth. This Jacob Bacon left few if any records, other than his likely birth recorded in both Newton and Cambridge as being on 2mo:9:1680 (9 April 1680), son of Jacob and Elizabeth Bacon.
