Nancy Morgan was b. abt 1760 to James Morgan and Mary Davis of Maryland, though Nancy is believed to have been born in NC - likely Rowan County. No specific date of her birth or death has been recorded. Source of information for her birth and death is "Morgan Family Group Sheet" prepared by Janet Pease, widely recognized researcher and genealogist and Morgan family descendant - without whose assistance, the site would be vastly lacking premier information.

It is noted here that 3 Wright brothers married 3 Morgan sisters: Richard, Jr. & Nancy William & Martha Benjamin & Barbara.

Nancy Morgan married Richard Wright, Jr. on 15 November 1780 in Randolph County - according to their marriage document which states verbatim [courtesy of kindred spirit Jaynie]: "Justice of the peace within this State. You or any of you are hereby authorized and Impowered to Solemnize the rights of matrimony between Richard WRIGHT [and] Nancy MORGAN agreeable to act of General Assembly in that Case made and provide, Witness, Absalom TATOM Clerk of said Court this 15th day of Novemr. Anno domino 1780 - A. TATOM CC

Conducting an analysis of the 1790 Census, Rowan County, North Carolina I found it to be undated, but believe it was done in May of 1790. Using long-established years of birth from later censuses, I believe it depicts the family of Richard Wright, Jr. as follows:.

males of 16 years and upwards, including heads of family = 1 - Richard Wright, Jr.;.

males under 16 = 2 - Amos [1782] and Reuben [Jan 1790]

females including heads of family = 5 - wife Nancy, daughters Sarah [1781]; Delilah [twin to Amos]; Jane Caroline [1786]; and Gizelle 'Gilly' [1788]

Nancy is believed to have died abt 1798, leaving Richard and the following children:

This 1800 Census for Rowan County, NC, features Richard Wright, Jr. and 10 of his children by first wife, Nancy Morgan. It's long been stated that that Richard and Nancy [Morgan] Wright had 12 children. To date, I have only been able to find information on 11.

The 12th child is unaccounted for, but - if there were 12 as according to history, there were 6 boys/6 girls - the 'missing child' would be a son and can only be presumed to have died young and did not appear in any census. IF that son existed, he did not live long enough to have transitioned from one census to another.

Based on later documents, the analysis of the 1800 census contains the following individuals: males under 10 = 3: Isom, 1797; Elijah, 1793, and Isaiah, 1791 males 10-15 = 1: Reuben, 1790 males 16-25 = 1: Amos, 1782 (twin to Delilah) males 26-44 = 1: Richard, Jr. females under 10 = 2: Nancy, 1795 and Susannah, 1798 females 10-15 = 3: Gizzeal [Gilly], 1788; Jane Caroline, 1786, and Delilah, 1782 (twin to Amos).

The 11th child, Sarah, b. 1781 was in the 1790 census with the family unit. 4 years prior to this 1800 census, in 1796 at age 15, she married Josiah Johnson.

Nancy Morgan Wright was approximately 38 years of age when she died - probably shortly after the birth of daughter, Susannah.

Nancy is believed to be buried in this cemetery.
