About Mathilda Evelyn Thelen

Mrs. Mathilda Thelen, 72, of 220 South Maple Street, Carroll, died Tuesday evening, April 30, at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha. She had been in failing health for two years and seriously ill the last eight months.......
Mrs. Thelen was born at Carroll March 1, 1902, a daughter of Henry and Mary Wilkens Neuerburg. She was educated at SS. Peter and Paul's School here and was married at SS. Peter and Paul's Church to Sylvester John Thelen on Feb. 21, 1921. Mr. Thelen died Jan. 20, 1947, and she lived at the above address for about 11 years. She was a member of Holy Spirit Church and Women's Guild, the Catholic Daughters of America and the Golden Circle Club.
Surviving are 11 children: Mrs. John F. (Linda) Hoffman, Mrs. Alfred (Marcile) Hoffmann and Mrs. Allan M. (Mary Ann) Ludwig of Carroll, Gerald and Norbert R. of Anita, Norman J. of Westside, Eugene R. of Des Moines, Sylvester Jr. of Templeton, Ralph H. of Davenport, Lawrence F. of Vail and Mrs. Michael G. (Lynette) Schaffer of Omaha, Neb.
Also surviving are 58 granchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. George (Theresa) Schachtner of Fonda, Mrs. Ann Brower of Orange, Calif., Mrs. Ben (Frances) Comes, Mrs. Margaret Sapp and Mrs. Ray (Lucille) Wessling of Carroll, Mrs. Mary Goodrich of Haywarden and Mrs. John (Hilda) Nazaryk of Helper, Utah.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Thelen was preceded in death by three infant children: Dorothy, Victor and Melvin; five sisters; Mrs. Charles Chorrel, Mrs. Art Schachtner, Emma, Hattie and Annie Neuerburg in infancy; and two brothers, George Neuerburg and another in infancy.
Mass of the resurrection for Mrs. Mathilda Thelen, 72, of Carroll was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Holy Spirit Church here by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Leo Lenz, V.F.
Cross bearer was Ricky Thelen and Larry Ludwig and John Thelen were acolvtes. Pallbearers were Loras (Melvin) Hoffmann, Myron Hoffmann, Allen Thelen, Mike Hoffmann, Allen Thelen, Mike Thelen, Joe Thelen and Paul Ludwig. All nine are grandsons of Mrs. Thelen.
Honorary pallbearers, also grandsons, were John Hoffmann, Lawrence Hoffmann, Dale Thelen, Duane Thelen, David Dailey, Dean Dailey, Vicot Hoffman, Cletus Thelen, Mike Thelen, Jim Thelen, Jeff Thelen, Mark Thelen, Rany Thelen and Ralph Thelen, Jr.
