About Matthew Irwin

His parents were David Irvine and Sophie Gault of Scotland.

Mathew Irvine married Elizabeth Patterson on Sept. 23, 1707 in Midlothian: Edinburgh, Scotland.[1] He is cited in Sons of the American Revolution Membership as an ancestor and father of Col. Nathaniel Erwin/Irwin.[2]

Matthew Irvine/Irwin was active in the mill business with his father. He married Elizabeth Patterson about 1690, probably in County Antrim. Both died in Augusta County, Virginia; he in 1755, she in 1762. They had six children. They were:

2. Matthew Irwin, Jr., born 1697

3. Isabella Irwin, born 1700

4. Sarah Irwin, born 1708
