About Matthew Kempe

Matthew Kempe was a son of Edmund Kempe and Anne (Unknown) Skipwith aka Kempe, widow in 1660, she married (2) Sir Grey Skipwith in 1661).[1]
Marriage and Children
Matthew Kemp and his wife, Ann Unknown, had two known children:[1]
- Matthew Kemp Jr., born in 1695, and died in 1739;
- Ann Kemp b. in 1700
In 1663, Matthew was granted administration of the estate of James Bonner (his sister Elizabeth's husband) as next of kin.[1] (possibly cousin Matthew Kempe-87) Pianketank, Lancaster County
In the will of Matthew Kempe, dated May 4, 1715 and probated in January 1716; Matthew refers to his "well beloved brother Sir William Skipwith," (son of Sir Grey Skipwith), and Ann, widow of Edmund Kempe.[2]
Matthew's father patented 1,100 acres in Pianketank in 1656.[1] Matthew Kempe received a regrant of the land in Pianketank, Lancaster County, (now Middlesex), and it stated that the patent had been formerly granted to his father, Edmund Kempe[1] (pg 41 of Zimmerman, Waters and Allied Families).

- Will of Matt. Kemp of the County of Middlesex being sick and weak in body, dated 4 May 1715.
- To my son Matthew Kemp all my lands, Negroes, debts, goods and chattells, he paying £200 sterl. to my dafter Ann Kemp when she shall come to the age of one and twenty and a Negro girl named Hannah.
- In case my son Matt Kemp and dafter Ann Kemp should dy without heirs, then to Gray Skipwith son of Sir William Skipwith of Middlesex County.
- If my creditors com to suddenly for their dets I make my son Matt Kemp of full age to bargain and sell a pece of land belonging to the dividend whereon I now live with the advice of my well beloved brother William Skipwith and my well beloved friend Majger Edmond Bearkley of the said county.
- I formerly lett a lease of' land to Martha Gardner for her life which said leas was never acknowledged. My will is that she hold and enjoy the land. I also give the said Martha Gardner one cow and calf.
- I have formerly given a negro boy named Billi to Martha Hillard dureing her life and to go to her son Thomas Hillard. There being a fault in drawine of the bill of sail I never did acknowledge it in Cort.
- Martha Hillard to hold, possess and enjoy the said Negro.
- My son Matt Kemp when he comes to age of one and twenty years shall be hole and sole executor.
- My well beloved brother Sir William Skipwith and my worthy friend Hajger Edmond Barkeley see this my last will performed.
- To my well beloved brother Sir William Skipwith a ginny to by him a mourning ring and bullett gun that is at the said Skipwith's house.
- To my worthy friend Majer Edmond Berkeley a ginny to by him a mourning ring.
