About Matthew Page
Matthew Page was the son of Col. John Page.
GEDCOM Note
A source says Matthew died unmarried but the Rosewell book states that he married 'Mary' & had 3 children so with the rest of the information on them...this would seem to make sense.
GEDCOM Note

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PAGE DESCENT Most sources give Francis as the father of John Page, however there are disagreements on this. According to the book: «i»The Genealogy of the Page Genealogy from 1297 to the Present«/i» by Charles N. Page 1911...pub. by the author-Des Moines, Iowa: "It would appear that a strange error has crept into one history of this family., where it states that the first John Page who located in Virginia was doubtless the son of Francis Page, as a tombstone was recently discovered in England which was lettered with the statement that this "was erected by his son John Page of Virginia". In looking over the wills filed in England, I find one said to be by John Page of Gloucester Co., Virginia-but it was recorded in England as much of his property is located there-it having been inherited from his father-in-law Francis Page. I do not know when this John Page came to this country or who his son was but one record says that it is thought that he was the sone of Col. Matthew Page. Possibly an adopted son. The will was dated April 20, 1709 but not proved until Jan 2, 1718. You will notice that this was many years after the death of the first John Page of Virginia. Said document shows that his first wife was Elizabeth of Captain Francis Page (she did not change her name when she married.)This would give a reason for his calling Francis Page his father. In his will he mentions his daughters Elizabeth & Mary & a son John & a son-in-law Mann Page whom he says is the son of Col. Matthew Page. I do not understand how Mann Page can be his son-in-law.The abovementioned will can be found in «i»Waters Genealogical Gleanings in England«/i»."
