About Matthew Woodruff

Source: The book, 'New England Marriages, before 1700'.

Notes for Matthew Woodruff: According to the "Woodruff Genealogy, descendants of Mathew Woodruff of Farmington, CT" compiled by Susan Woodruff Abbott in 1963, "Mathew Woodruff -- We know not whence he came nor where he lived in America before he bought a few acres of land from two of the original proprietors of Farmington, not far from Hartford, Seat of the govenment of the Colony of Connecticut, in 1653. Although it has been said that he came from Hartford to Farmington in 1640-41, written evidence seems to be entirely lacking. His name does not appear as a landowner or church member that early, but the possibility always exists, evidence or no, that he did in fact come from Hartford, and perhaps in the 1640s." There are a couple more paragraphs, and then it goes on to say...."He was made a freeman 21 May 1657 at Hartford....." Lived in Milford, Connecticut until after the death of his first wife Mary Plumb about 1684 at which time he returned to Farmington, Connecticut.

Marriage 1: Matthew Woodruff married Sarah North on June 16, 1668 at Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut. [ this date 1668 is an error. Marriage was 1686, Sarah is 2nd wife]

Marriage 2: Matthew Woodruff married Mary Plumb about 1684. [ this is error as she died @ 1673 and was his 1st wife according to Buckingham Colonial Anccestors; married 1668]
