About Maud Warren

While it isn't certain that Griffin Warenne's wife was Maud le Strange, the le Strange line has merit. There is some question about the wives given in The History of the Warren Family, pp. 29-30

Daughter of Lord Strange

Biography

The Mainwaring of Ightfield pedigree in the Visitation of Shropshire noted Mathilda, daughter of Lord Strange of Blackmere, as the wife of a Gruffith Warren, son of John Warren and Ellena Charleton. Mathilda and Gruffith had a son Gruffith who married Margaretta, daughter of Piers Corbett.[1]

There is no indication from the pedigree which Lord Strange she may have been a daughter of and provided no dating evidence.

Research Notes

Marlyn Lewis, based on Brent Ruesch's Research Notes, shows Maud's father to be Sir John le Strange, 2nd Lord Strange of Blackmere b. 25 Jan 1306, d. 21 Jul 1349, and his mother to be Ankaret le Boteler d. 8 Oct 1361[2]

Lewis acknowledges, however, that Maud is not shown as a daughter of these parents by Richardson. Lewis reports specifically, "This daughter is not known to Plantagenet Ancestry, p. 109.[3][4]
