On December 17, 1940 he was injured in a coal mine, having been run over by a large coal cutting machine. He lived until his death on December 22, 1940, the cause being gas gangrene. According to my mother, he said he wanted to be buried in Sulphur Springs Cemetery in Chilhowie, VA, and his wish was carried out! |
