David Wright appeared frequently in the town records of Hanover. He was a surveyor of highways in 1787,[33] 1789,[34] 1794,[35] as constable in 1796 and 1797,[36] and the school committee 1800.[37] He was the surveyor of highways in district 4 for 1808.[38]

David Wright, who was born in Ashford, Connecticut, in July 1759, and died in Hanover, New Hampshire, in 1852, was a soldier of the Revolution and served at various times from 1775 until 1781.[39] He enlisted first in 1775 as a private in a company of riflemen from Hanover, New Hampshire, and under command of Lieutenant James Parr was in service at Great Island in November of that year; enlisted at Hanover, August 16, 1776, in Captain David Woodward's company of rangers for the state of New Hampshire, and was credited with forty-six days service; March 17, 1777, was mustered as a private in Captain House's company of Colonel Cilley's regiment, and in September 1777, was private in Colonel Jonathan Chase's regiment of militia which marched from Cornish, New Hampshire, to Saratoga, New York, and joined General Gates' army in opposing and overwhelming the British under General Burgoyne at Stillwater; service one month and three days. April 1778, he was mustered with other men from Hanover for that town's quota in Colonel Jonathan Chase's regiment of the Continental army, and is described as then being twenty years old and five feet seven inches tall. Feburary 17, 1779, he enlisted and was muster, in April, for three years' service as private in Colonel Chase's regiment in the Continental army, and in the next year was reported as private and sergeant of the fourth company of Colonel Cilley's regiment of the Continental army; and in 1781 he was reported as sergeant in the same company and regiment.

David Wright of Hanover, married, September 16, 1783, Lydia Tenny. She was born October 23, 1761, and died at Hanover, New Hampshire, April 27, 1832, daughter of John and Olive (Armstrong) Tenny. David and Lydia had in all nine children, three of whom were born at one time. Their first child, name unknown, was born June 24, 1784, and died June 25, 1785. Their second child, Wealthy, was born July 31, 1785, died April 8, 1864, married Asher Ladd and settled in Painesville, New York. Their next children were triplets, born March 10, 1788, and died two on March 11, 1788, and the third March 25, 1788. Their sixth child, Anna, was born May 20, 1790 and died May 1, 1875; married September 11, 1811, Henry Hilton Chandler of Hanover, New Hampshire. Their seventh child, Hannah, was born February 4, 1792, and died December 10, 1795. Their eighth child, David, Jr., was born January 17, 1794, and died in Hanover; married 1815, Irene Ladd, born March 21, 1793. Their ninth child, Caleb, was born January 14, 1798, and died July 11, 1802.

Sept. 14, 1818 David Wright of Hanover, Grafton Co., NH, deposed: that he joined a company of Rangers in the New York line commanded by Col. Hoisington in 1776 and served two years;

That in Mar 1778 he enlisted for three years in the continental Infantry, First NH commanded by Capt. John House, Col. Cilley in Col. Poor's Brigade;

That after marching as a Guard from Boston to Yorktown, Va., he returned and joined the main army at Valley Forage in May or June 1778;

That he remained in service until February 1781, about a month before his term of enlistment expired when he was honorably discharged by Col. Scammel who at that time commanded the regiment "that I afterwards sold my claim for arrearages of clothing and provision and delivered the evidence of my discharge to the purchaser to enable him to receive said arrearages so that I cannot now produce the same."
