About Meijer van Dam
Meier was the last child of his parents. At his young age the whole family, including married children, moved from Groningen to Rotterdam in order to find better workingpossibilities. He lost his parents as a child. From than on he lived at his sister's Betje and her husband Asscher Lazarus van Hasselt and their children. With these children he kept very friendly and close ties till they all got murdered.
At the age of 19 he married his wife Aria Dorreman and within 9 months their first child, Frouktje, was born.
At may 10, 1940, they lived with 7 children at Crispijnlaan, Rotterdam, where they were bombed out 13th of may. After some time the family found a new home in The Hague, where Meier was picked from the street at 20.05 hrs in the midst of july 1942. As a jew he was outside after curfew (20.00 hrs), and without judenstern, which was attached on his coat, that he didn't wear at that time because of the heat. He was outside to get the kinderwaggon in. In december 41 their joungest child Marina (named after her maternel grandfather) was born there. Meier was locked up in the Scheveningen prison. His children Frouk and Louis went after him but were send back home by the guard, to protect them. Then his brother Andries came to plead for him. He had to stay and share his fate. Via camp Amersfoort they went to Mauthausen were he, and his brother Andries, got murdered. The children got dispersed in and around Coevorden, at many helpfull families.
His wife survived, being of mixed origin, in the Hague. The youngest children Marina and Sophia survived hidden in an orphanage.
