Melvin Engebret “Shorty” Dekko was born in Strand Township, Norman County, MN, on November 22, 1891, to parents Engebret Knudson and Augusta (Skindervicken) Vick Dekko. Melvin Engebret “Shorty” Dekko married “Lula” Louisa Henrietta (Bakke) on March 25, 1925 in Gary, MN. Shorty was a barber and baseball manager for most of his life in Gary, MN. Shorty and Lula had four sons namely: Loren “Toby” Monell (Marilyn) –Thomas “Bunny” Dottie –Gary Melvin (Sonia Veker)—Keith Scott Dekko. Melvin E. (Shorty) Dekko was inducted into the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of fame in 1963. Shorty had the following siblings: Ed Adolph—Ole—Henry Martin—Bennie (Alice Bakke)—Louis—Belle (George) Olson. Half brothers Knute and Severt and half sisters, Bertha—Caroline—Maria—and Christine. Shorty died on October 21, 1979.
