Mendel Saladski

Mendel Frankel took a different surname at some point between the 1834 Revision List and the 1858 Revision List. In 1834 he's listed as a son of Berko Leiba Frankel. In 1858 he appears as a household head at age 39 as MENDEL SOLATSKY son of Berko.

His daughter, Rosa, married a cousin, Abraham Frankel.

We know that the Bernstein family of Merkine took the surname of Tsirlstein of Merkine to avoid conscription, and we probably can assume the same motive for Mendel Frankel to become Mendel Solatski, taking the name of another family in a household, presumably without sons. Although the family above does have a son in 1834, who knows what the situation was in 1858.

According to Beider, the surname Soletskij is from the Sol'cha River in the Vilna Gubernia.

So we have Mendel, born circa 1819; his first wife Rauza, died 1856; his second wife, Merka daughter of David, born circa 1828; his daughter Chaya born circa 1846.
