Michael Farmer, Sr. born circa 1750 , died 1824/27 in Grayson County, Virginia, was a pioneer settler of Grayson County. His lands lay in that sections of Montgomery Co. which became Wythe Co. in 1789 and Grayson in 1793. He is named in the Personal Property list of Montgomery Co. in 1789, Wythe in 1793 and thereafter in Grayson Co - .Grayson Co. Deed Book 6 p. 345.

Information from Anthony Farmer states: "Michael (aka John Michael) Farmer, Sr. was the first Farmer to come to Carroll Co., VA (settled in the part of Wythe County that later became parts of Carroll and Grayson Counties). First record of him is the 1771 tax record of Augusta Co., VA. His residence at this time is unknown, but Carroll Co. was part of Augusta at this time, found in history of Grayson Co., VA 1771/1772-Kegley's "New River Titheables". By 1776 he is located on Chestnut Creek/Crooked Creek section of Grayson Co., VA. In the 1815 Grayson Co., VA Real Estate Assessments, Michael Sr. was owner of one farm on Chestnut Creek containing 367 acres, with two cabins on the farm. The assessed value of this property was $200. (From Find A Grave's Memorial # 101911220), In 1797 Michael Farmer, Sr. received from the Dobsons 180 acres on Wolf Glade Creek. Michael appeared in the Grayson County VA 1799 Land Tax list: Farmer, Michael 60 acres, Farmer, Michael 100 acres, Farmer. Michael 207 acres, and Farmer, Michael 180 acres Grainger County, TN.

Michael Sr. died in Grayson Co., VA about 1826, without a Will. Per information from Curtis Ray Farmer, Michael (aka John Michael) was a Quaker and a Tory who was ousted from his family and changed his name from John Michael Farmer, Sr. to Michael Farmer, Sr. per the 1815 Grayson Co., VA real estate assessments.
