Mildred P. Oakley, 97, died Sunday, March 3, 1996, at the Leader Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Madison.
She was born November 26, 1898, in Albion Township, the daughter of Fred Erwin and Vinnie (Ream) Palmiter. She had graduated from Edgerton High School and was a 1921 graduate of Milton College, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree.
Mildred was married to Carroll F. Oakley on August 8, 1923; he preceded her in death in 1969. She had been a resident of Milton for many years, and had been a member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church since 1924. She had also resided in Manhattan, Kansas, Milwaukee and Janesville until moving to Madison five years ago.
In addition to being a homemaker, she had been employed as a teacher, librarian and a bookkeeper. Mildred is survived by her son, Clyde (Elizabeth A.) Oakley of Madison; two grandchildren, Lisa A. Schroeter of New Berlin, and Kristin A. Podemski of Freeport, Illinois; four great-grandchildren: Jamie and Benjamin Schroeter and Caitlin and Jessica Podemski.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 7, at Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church. Rev. Earl Cruzan officiated. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Albion. Bruni-Nygaard-Ward Funeral Home, Edgerton assisted the family.
