Smith County Pioneer – March 21, 1985 Miner Hubbard Was Longtime County Citizen Miner Derrol Hubbard was born Nov. 15, 1901, in Smith County, the son of David and Maude Bales Hubbard. He died on March 13, 1985, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita at the age of 83. On Oct. 5, 1923, he was married to Ethel Loese Brown at Osborne. To this union were born four sons and four daughters. Miner lived in Smith County all his life and worked for the State Highway Department. Preceding him in death were his parents, sons Derrol and Dick, and brother Floy Hubbard, and sister Jessie Graham. Survivors include his wife of the home in Smith Center; daughters Donna Hill of Scottsdale, Ariz., Melba Carlson of Tuscon, Ariz., Ella Sparks of Dade City, Fla., and Marge Beury of Dade City, Fla.; and sons Jack Hubbard of Phillipsburg, and R. Dee Hubbard of Corona Del mar, Calif. There also remains a sister, Mabel Gano of Colorado Springs, Colo., and a brother Paul of Lebanon. Graveside services were March 15 at Fairview Cemetery, Smith Center, Rev. Victor Schwarz officiated. Casket bearers were Derrol Hubbard, Mike Hubbard, Bret Hubbard, Rick Hill, David Shepard, Kurt Hubbard, Jay Hubbard, Tim Hill, and John Beury III.
