According to Moritz's granddaughter Elisabeth Bonda, his company dealt with spinning and dyeing (Spinnerei, Färberei). Researchers have suggested that this later evolved to some form of chemical enterprise. The business was probably located in or next to the family apartment. Wilhelm Haumann, Paul Kornfeld: Leben, Werk, Wirkung, page 2.
According to Elisabeth Bonda, Moritz was also knowledgeable in philosophy, poetry and (Jewish) religion. Haumann page 10.
Haumann suggests that Moritz may have been the Kornfeld that Franz Kafka (an acquaintance of Moritz's son) mentioned in a humorous entry in his journal: „Auf dem Kloset darf man nicht an die Tora denken, daher darf man dort weltliche Bücher lesen. Ein sehr frommer Prager, ein gewisser Kornfeld, wusste viel Weltliches, er hat alles auf dem Kloset studiert.“ = "In the lavatory, one must not think of the Tora, so therefore one must read profane books there. A very pious resident of Prague, a certain Kornfeld, knew a lot of wordly things; he had studied it all in the lavatory." Haumann page 10.
