Mendon Leader Dies At Age 85— Mendon— Mormon Delbert Bird, 85 former Mendon Bishop and Stake Patriarch, died late Wednesday night in a Logan hospital following a three day illness. He was born September 2, 1877 in Wellsville, a son of Mornom and Emeline Elizabeth Gardner Bird. He recived his education in the county schools and had been a farmer in the Mendon area all of his life. He had served for many years as postmaster there. Active throughout his life in the LDS Church, he fulfilled a mission to the Northwersern States. He was ordained bishop of Mendon Ward in 1903 and served for 17 years. He was a high councilman in Hyrum Stake and was Logan Stake patriach. He married Mary Ann Hughes on December 18, 1910 in the Logan LDS Temple. Surving are his widow of Mendon, two sons and three daughters, Irvin D., Tooele; Marcell W., Idaho Falls; Mrs. Glen (Violet) Alexander and Mrs. Leo (Orlie) Jenson, both of Ogden; and Artice Bird, Mendon; sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The following brothers and sisters survive, Clair and Afton Bird, Mendon; Earl and Cyril Bird, Brigham City; Mrs. Hazel Health, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Erma Bruington, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Lucille Hillyard, Logan. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Mendon Ward Chapel with Bishop Fred Sorensen in charge. Friends may call at the Nelson Memorial Funeral Chapel in Logan, Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Mendon City Cemetery.
