About Moses Benesch
There are gaps in the available records about Moyses (Moses) Benesch.
At the time of the 1783 Jewish Census in the Prachen region, Moyses Herschl was the only Jew living in Schlusselburg (now Lnáře). He was married and had 7 children, and he was involved in distilling brandy and some other trades (Fluß- und Gewürzhandel). (Page 28) Other Jews were under the protection of Schlusselburg, but only Moyses was living there.
At the time of the 1793 Jewish Census Bohemia, Moyses (Moses) Benesch was still the only Jew living in the village of Schlüsselburg in the Strakonice district of the Prachen region. He continued to run a brandy distillery. Also, according to the census Moyses had minimal assets ("hat ein geringes vermögen").
According to the Census, Moyses' wife's name was Regina. The record lists 6 sons and two daughters, but indicates that there were a total of 9 sons. The ages of the family members were not recorded.
- 4th-born son Nephtal, married
- 5th-born son Juda, married
- 6th-born son Lazar, married
- 7th-born son Joseph
- 8th-born son Gabriel
- 9th-born son Phillip

There is no Familiant record for Moyses Benesch, but there is one for his son Philip. According to Philip’s Familiant record (Prachen HBF XIII/VI Inv. 123, Folio 105), Moyses Benesch was from Dešenice.
There is a death record for a Moyses Benesch who died in Horazdovice House VII on December 1, 1812, at age 77. Horazdovice 454 F-5, L-5. Assuming that this is the correct record, then Moyses Benesch was born in 1735
