Clearfield Progress - July 15, 1857
On the farm belonging to the Sligo Iron Company, there are 150 acres of What, 115 of Rye, 65 of Corn, 70 of Oats and 180 of Grass for hay, making in all 580 acres under cultivation. The management of the whole is in the hands of Mr. Moses M. Conrad, an experienced farmer, who has devoted his close attention to the putting in of the crop. The wheat is of the Mediteranean species and is very fine, not being at all affected with weevil or anything of the kind. This will be an immense and profitable crop, showing the ability to produce and the results of careful cultivation. The entire crop promises well, and will be a great help to the extensive business of the company, enabling them to have a full supply of immediate necessaries within themselves and not subject to the rise and fall of the markets. So says the Banner.
(Clarion Democrat, 5/1/1890) Moses Conrad, one of Sligo’s old and prominent citizens, was stricken with paralysis on last Monday night and died on Tuesday morning.
(Clarion Democrat, 5/8/1890) Moses M. Conrad passed away from the church militant to the church triumphant, on the 29th ultimo, aged 75 years, 3 months and 10 days. He was a member of the M.E. church for many years. He was a Past Grand of Clarion Lodge, No. 252 I.O.O.F., and in good standing at the time of his death. A large delegation from that Lodge attended his funeral. He was buried according to the rites of the order in the Sligo cemetery, Rev. R.M. Felt conducting the religious ceremonies.
