About Moses A Johnson, II

A Patriot of the American Revolution for NEW HAMPSHIRE with the rank of Private. DAR Ancestor # A206909

Moses Johnson was born on 5 Oct 1738 in Holliston. He died on 17 Nov 1803 in Leicester, Vermont. He is buried in the Brookside Cemetery. He married Elizabeth Underwood on 29 Jan 1752.

The date of their marriage and the dates of their children are problematic. Did they marry in 1752 when they would have been 14 years old??!! Was Enoch born in 1753 or 1773? Did they have two sons named Moses, one born in 1755 and one in 1777?

Moses went to Dublin, Chester, New Hampshire and is on the list of those who worked on the roads in 1764-5. In 1766 he purchased the seventh lot in the eighth range. He sold this lot to Sibylla Johnson, spinster on 29 Jun 1776. He traded land in Dublin as late as 1782.

Moses was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. He was a private in Col. Stark's regiment at Medford on 4 Oct 1775 and also appears on the rosters of Capt. John Mellen's company and Capt. Samuel Twitchell's company in the Rhode Island Expedition in Aug 1778.

Was called "Moses of Southborough." Resided at Dublin, N.H. as early as 1764. Purchased land in 1766. Some later sold his farm, but continued to sell land there as late as 1782. He served in the Revolution; Capt. Abbott's Company, Col. Stark's Regiment. Also Capt. John Mellen's Co. and also that of Capt. Sam Twitchell's in Rhode Island, 1778. He signed the "Association Test of N.H." Died at age 65 years.
