About Mrs. Philemene Sampson
Mrs. Philemon Sampson is # 1323 on the 1907 Wooster Roll where she is identified as the sister of Peter Wacowsia # 1315. A woman with the same birth year (1840), also living on Manitoulin Island at the time of the 1901 census of Canada is recorded as "Philemene" so almost certainly is the same person so that spelling is entered in the Geni database. See https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KH2C-92L.

CITING THIS RECORD
"Canada Census, 1901," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KH2C-92L : accessed 16 May 2016), Philemene Sampson in household of Joseph Sampson, Q3, Algoma, Ontario, Canada; citing p. 1, Library and Archives of Canada, Ottawa.
The 1901 census indicates that 61 year old Philemene Sampson was widowed at the time. Six years later her husband is not recorded on so she apparently did not remarry.
Philemene Sampson's traditional name is reported as "Maiaogishigokwe" meaning "Half-sky woman" but that name and its translation require scrutiny and comment by those with expertise in nuances of the Anishinaabemowin language and Potawatomi culture.
In 1907 when Mrs. Philemon Sampson was age 68 she was living at Sheshegwaning Reservation where she held only partial rights in Canada. The explanation for "partial rights" in the Wooster Roll states, "Are British subjects, and receive all rights except in money arising from the sale of surrendered part of Indian reservation under a former treaty." That statement requires scrutiny and comment by historians with expertise in treaties of the 1700's and 1800's especially in light of 2016 constitutional consultations.
