Nathan and his brothers Reuben and Samuel moved to the south in the beginnings of the 1800's. They engaged in the border wars with Spanish-America and then settled in Louisiana. Nathan moved to St. Mary Parish in 1807 and went into a partnership with Louisiana Governor Henry Johnson to open up a sugar plantation in Bayou Sale.
As a side note to the Kemper family they were brought from Germany to America in 1714 by Virginia Governor Alexander Spottswood to operate mines in that state. John/Johannes Kemper settled in the little colony at Fort Germanna in Virginia with about 40 other people from the Siegerland ( currently the area of Siegen the south Westphalian part of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is located in the district of Siegen-Wittgenstein in the Arnsberg region of Germany. )
