NATHANIEL2, Nathaniel1 (of Milford).
Nathaniel Baldwin, son of Nathaniel Baldwin (of Milford), was born Jan. 2, 1645 in Milford; bapt. in 1646. The Nathaniel's of the second and third generations, in Milford, are more difficult to trace satisfactorily than any other name, and I have spent more time upon them.
This Nathaniel was a weaver, and married Mar. 12, 1670/1, HANNAH BOTCHFORD, dau. Henry, of Milford, sister to the wife of his brother Daniel. (There was a second Nathaniel Baldwin, cooper, who was the son of John, Sr., but that Nathaniel. But Nathaniel, son of Nathaniel, was the weaver, appears from the fact that Nathaniel, weaver, was also Senior.
His father-in-law, Henry Botchford (Botsford) made a will, dated July 1, 1685, remembering his "son-in-law, Nathaniel Baldwin, and the four children he had by his daughter Hannah." These four children were: Elizabeth, Hannah, Ester, and Samuel.
Children by Hannah: Elizabeth (6/9/1673), Hannah (7/11/1674), Ester (11/14/1676; as dau. Nathaniel Sr.,bpt 11/19/1676, and buried 21st as dau. of "sister wife of Nathaniel".), Ester (5/25/1683; m. Samuel Sanford of Newtown), and Samuel (1/14/1684 (5, new style; he no doubt d.y.).
Nathaniel married 2nd with MARTHA MITCHELL, dau. David Mitchell of Stratford. She died Apr. 1691. On Oct. 14, 1688 Nathaniel and his wife Martha and dau. Hannah were all admitted to Milford Church and the same day were baptized.
Child: Daniel (bpt 10/14/1688; d. 1/6/1711).
Nathaniel died June 2, 1714 and is buried at Milford Cemetery, Milford, New Haven Co., Connecticut. His will was probated on June 22, 1714 in Milford.
Nathaniel Baldwin was born on January 2, 1645 in Milford, New Haven, Connecticut. He was the son of Nathaniel Baldwin Sr b 1620 and Abigail Camp Baldwin. He married Hannah Botsford on March 12, 1670 in his hometown of Milford. They had two known children during their marriage. Nathaniel lived in Connecticut at a time when people in colonial New England were subject to laws limiting what they could do on Sunday. He passed away on June 2, 1714 in Milford, Connecticut at the age of 69 and was laid to rest in this local cemetery.
