About Nathaniel John Templeton
A Patriot of the American Revolution for PENNSYLVANIA - VIRGINIA with the rank of PRIVATE.
DAR Ancestor # A113439
Notes for Nathanial (John) Templeton: He was a Private Ranger in the Frontiers; Private 1st class, 2nd Co., 3rd Battalion from Washington County, Pennsylvania. He served in Col. Crawford's army that fought the Indians in Ohio during early summer, May and June of 1782. the battle was often called the Battle of Sandusky Plains. Col. Crawford was taken prisoner and burned at the stake. Nathanial was wounded during the fighting of the first day, and for several days he managed to hide himself. He was left lying along the banks of the Sandusky River near where Fremont now stands. Growing weak from the loss of blood and exposure, on the third day he was found and taken prisoner. The Indians scalped him. His body was found several days later on the field of battle by his comrades. His comrades secured his gun and carried it back to his farm in Washington Co PA. I am told that a descendant still has this gun in their possession. http://genforum.genealogy.com/templeton/messages/1274.html
