Text: According to my records, Bethany Cordelia was a daughter of Jacob Magee and Mary Scott who came from Sampson Co., North Carolina and settled on the Amite River in the Mississippi territory about 1810. Jacob was a son of John Magee Sr. and Sarah Ann Moore. Mary was a daughter of Nehemiah Scott and Elizabeth Atkinson.
Mary Scott’s sister, Bethany Scott, married John Magee Jr., brother of Jacob Magee.

deed of gift was recorded in Sampson/Duplin Co.: Nehemiah Scott to Sarah Cooper (his daughter), "my negro Judith with her increas and Cupid and 20 pounds in money," dated 15 Aug 1797, witnessed by Jacob Cooper and Elihu Wiggins. That same date, with the same witnesses, Nehemiah also made similar deeds of gifts to daughters Jane/Jean Butler, Ann Cooper, Bethany/Bethana Magee, Elizabeth Cooper, and Disa/Dica/Dicy Scott. Later, Nehemiah made deeds of gift to his son Nehemiah Scott Jr. and to daughter Mary Magee. Nehemiah Scott's deed of gift to son Nehemiah Jr. (dated 23 Sept. 1797), the witnesses were Fleet Cooper and Scott Cooper; and on the deed of gift from Nehemiah Scott to daughter Mary Magee (dated 8 March 1801), the witnesses were Nehemiah Scott Jr. and Fleet Cooper.
