Nellie McDaniel was a Cherokee, the great-granddaughter of Nan-ye-hi, Nancy Ward. Her parents were Jennie Taylor and Chief John McIntosh. Nellie married a white man, James McDaniel. Nelllie and her family Removed to Indian Territory in Lt. Harris’’ detachment of 1834. Nellie’s mother and one of her children died just as they reached Indian Territory. Nellie and James had four children who survived, John, Catherine, Margaret, and Samuel. Nellie and James apparently both died before 1851 since they don’t appear on the Old Settler Roll of 1851.
