Nels Ackland, a prominent and worthy pioneer farmer of Manchester, fell from the hay loft of his barn while putting down hat Saturday evening, and was found dead, his neck having been broken in the fall.
Mr. Ackland was 74 years old and had lived in Manchester many years, where by diligence anf thrift he built up a comfortable fortune.
His wife died about a year ago.
Three son;
Lewis, Charles and Bryon well known and estimable men and
Mrs. E.O. Fossom, wife of the postmaster at Manchester
Miss Nettie Ackland with Hurd, Hoffman & Co.
are the survivors of the family.
Funeral services will be held at the home at 1 o'clock today and at the Rev. Mr. Strands church immediate thereafter.

Nels Ackland, an early settler of Manchester township, was
born in Norway in 1829. In 1848 he came to America and secured
employment as a sailor on Lake Erie. Three years later he came
westward to Danville, where he worked as a painter for fifteen
years. He came to Minnesota in 1862 and located in Manchester,
where he engaged in farming until the time of his death, which
occurred on November 1, 1903. His wife, Regina (Dayland)
Nelson, who died June 10, 1902, was also a native of the same
country and bore him seven children. Of these two, Mattie and
Byron, are deceased. Addie married E. O. Fossum; Charles and
Louis still carry on farming operations in Manchester; Andrew is
a carpenter and tinner, residing in Albert Lea, and Nettie lives in
Albert Lea.
