C. ACKLAND PASSES AWAY NEW'S YEARS DAY
Charles Ackland, a long time and well known resident of this county, passed away New Year's morning at his home at 317 Charles Street, about seven-thirty with heart trouble. He was 62 years of age at the time of death. For the past several years Mr. Ackland has suffered heart attacks but has been able to work intermittently during that time. Since Christmas he has been quite ill and confined at his home. About nine years ago , Mr. and Mrs. Ackland retired from active farming, which they had done in this county near Manchester for many years. Since then he has been employed with the Wedge Nursery Company. Besides his wife he is survived by two brothers; Andrew of Summer Street Louis Ackland of northwest of the city One sister; Mrs. Addie Fossum of Manchester. The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. at home and at 1:30 p.m. from the Central Freeborn Lutheran church. Four of Mrs. Ackland's sisters have arrived or will be here for the funeral, including; Mrs. Robert Liggett and son Jerry of St. Paul Rev. and Mrs. J.H. Wyrvang of Mt. Charles Ackland, a prosperous farmer of Manchester Town- shiip, was born on the farm where he still resides, December 12, 1868, son of Nels and Regina (Dayland) Ackland. He attended school in the district near his home and grew to manhood on the farm. He has devoted his entire life to agricultural pursuits. In the Welfare of his community he has ever taken an active interest, is a stockholder in the local creamery and has served on the town board, also on the school board. The Lutheran Church counts him an active and valued member and he has served that body as trustee for many years. In politics he is a Republican. He was married to Augusta Thompson, of Hartland, March 4, 1899.
