Was member of the 15th Texas Cavalry. Joined as Private. Rank at death was Sergeant. He died in the P.O.W. camp, St. Louis, Missouri. Moore's Company (Company One) of the 15th Texas Cavalry. His military records show different dates of enlistment. Some show Newton joining for duty and enrolling on April 24, 1862, at Van Zandt. Other records note that Newton enlisted on March 29, 1862, at Canton, TX. Newton was 31 years old when he enlisted.≤/line>≤line />≤line>He was captured at Ft. Hindman, Arkansas Post, AR on Jan 11, 1863. He died twenty days later while a prisoner of war at the Hickory Street General Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Newton had been admitted to the hospital on January 26. He died from chronic diarrhea.
