Nicholas Gentry (Nicholas , Nicholas , Samuel ) was born in 1726 in Hanover, Va. He died on 13 Dec 1787 in Louisa Co., VA/Adair Co., Ky.

Nicholas served in the Revolutionary War per DAR records. Nicholas was the son of Nicholas II, and Mary Brooks. This information was gleaned from the book "Gentrys in America", by Richard Gentry, and from on line sources. Nicholas was married to 1) Elizabeth Stringer. The following list of children is found in a court document dated 1782 and lists his children to Elizabeth, except for Nicholas IV, who may not have been living at this time:
Nicholas married 2) Sarah Dickens, in 1769 Louisa Co. VA. They had ten children:
There is a Nicholas on the 1800 tax list for Greene Co. Ky, which later became Adair Co. It may be one of his sons or grandsons
