Nicolas Maxwell, Lady Cleghorn, died intestate in January 1643. [National Records of Scotland, Commissary Records of Glasgow, Testament Dative of Nicolas Maxwell, Lady Cleghorne, reference CC9/7/29 pp. 82-85]
The testament dative and inventory of "Nicolas Maxwell, Lady Cleghorne" was given up by John Hinshelwode in Cleghorn, lawful creditor to the defunct. Her other creditors included: "umqle Allane Lockhart brother germane to umqle Allexr Lockhart of Cleghorne" who was owed :"ffiftie merks money prnll sowme & ten merks of pennaltie" James Lockhart of Cleghoen acted himself as cautioner for John Hinshelwode and confirmation was granted on 1 August 1643. Nicolas Maxwell married Alexander Lockhart, son of Alan Lockhart of Cleghorn. NRS: GD41/373
