Born : 23/6/1850 he was registered in the Church Register of Vejle. Joined the Navy 1864 – German Invasion – 14 years old. Spent 11 years in Europe. Cape Town – 1875 – seems to have arrived in South Africa. Gold Rush – 1886 – joined the Gold Rush 36 years old. Died at the age of 81. Died – 3/9/1931. His parents names were : Father : Jens Nielsen – day labourer Mother : Else Cathrine Christensdatter To find out more about them go through the Census of Vejle 1860. Danish National Archives also the Riksarkivet.

I found him in the Church Register of Vejle: Born 23/6/1850, his parents were Jens Nielsen, day labourer, and wife Else Cathrine Christensdatter. To find more about them, you need to go through the Census of Vejle 1860, which is a big job when you do not know their adress. Of course we could try to find them for you, but we would have to charge you by the hour. You can find the census in the Danish National Archives, Rigsarkivet in Copenhagen (Rigsdagsgården 9, 1218 København K, mailbox@ra.sa.) Also at Rigsarkivet you can find the naval archives. Another Email : Our price pr hour for this kind of research is 350 dkk. At The Danish National Archives you can find the censuses on microfilm - and you just go there and find it. The Naval Archives is a little bit more difficult - and I think it would be a good idea to ask for them in advance, because they have to be found in registers and retrieved from the storeroom.
