Biography

Nils Povelsen resides in Germany in 1619-1622 and is first mentioned as a goldsmith in the exchange on December 9, 1622 as valuer and from 1624 we meet him as the director of the Spanish company. On November 8, 1624, Councilor Nils Povelsen and Lyder Nibur become custodian of Blessed Peder Graa the younger child Povel and Lene, instead of Ole Vandebierg who has passed away. Peder Povelsen Graa the younger died in 1619, changed June 29, 1620. The widow Ingeborg Svensdotter, the child's mother, remarries Bent Christensen Deign in Frenninge. Ingeborg lived in Kristianstad in 1622. Peder Povelsen Graa owned a farm in Kristianstad and land in Vä. The son Povel Pedersen Graa serves in 1637 well-born Henning Valkendorp to Glorup. Daughter Lene Pedersdotter was married to Jochum Brunsuig, who gave up Nils Povelsen 24 March 1631 for his wife's inheritance. However, Jochum Brunsuig died before June 25, 1638. Lene then lives in Vä. The information can be found mainly in a dispute over land in Nesby and Nosaby Vang, which is carried in the exchange in 1638-1639. Nils Povelsen sells deceased Per Graas farm on the northern street in Kristianstad to well-to-do Hans Bernekou, to get money to pay Per Graas debts and to the children's inheritance [Kristianstad exchange 1 September 1628]. Bent Christensen Deign in Frenninge at his wife Ingeborg Svendsdotter's previous Blessed Peder Graas, as well as Lene Pedersdotter on their own roads, regarding access to Blessed Peder Graas the younger's land, lying in Nesby and Noseby Vång, has agreed Christen Lund to Kristianstad exchange May 28th Similarly, they have agreed with Councilor Nils Povelsen to answer whether he disposed of this land. 25 June 1638 Nils Povelsen mentions that he wrote 29 November 1637 to Povel Pedersen Graa, who are blessed Peder Graa the younger son, now serving well-born Henning Valkendorp to Glorup. We also know that Lene Pedersdaughter's husband now blessed Jochum Brunsuig gave Nils Povelsen waiver on March 24, 1631 for Lene's legacy after her father Blessed Peder Graa. April 1, 1639, Councilor Nils Povelsen presents a change letter of June 29, 1620 after Blessed Peder Povelsen Graa who died in 1619. Where you can see that Ingeborg and the children inherited 383 dollars, and tells Nils Povelsen that then Blessed Peder Graae died in 1619 was Nils in Germany and did not come home until 1622 and in the same year he became a value in the place of Iver Jacobsen and when he adopted the object of destination there was no land. Regarding the land, which is called the "Little Monk", Christen Lund had bought this from his mother Anne Söffren Olsens, who has owned the land since 1621. Christen Lund was sentenced to restore the land to the heirs of Blessed Peder Graa. However, these sold it back to Christen Lund. Peder Povelsen Graa is called the younger one here. Of course, there is a Peder Graa the older one. Kristianstad Town Hall Book 28 February 1622 mentions Ingeborg Blessed Peder Graes [the younger] and 18 March 1622 G [amle] Peder Graa. In the exchange of 26 February 1627 Per Graa is mentioned and 9 July 1627 G [amle] Peder Graa. Both are also mentioned in 1628. Is it the same Peder Graa or do we now also have two Peder Graa? One is in any case Peder Jensen Graa, who lives December 14, 1629, but died before June 14, 1630. Possibly the other may be the Peder Povelsen Graa whose farm is surveyed and valued July 15, 1633. Blessed Peder Jensen Graa's son Jens Graa soldier initiates the exchange on 16 August 1630 in Kristianstad, an heir with his stepmother, which will last a long time. Jens Graa is not the best child of God and is killed in 1632 after committing a murder himself. However, his sister Bente Pedersdotter continues the dispute. February 7, 1631, Jens Graa agreed with the mayor and council, as well as goldsmith Nils Povelsen, and presented to them various documents concerning the inheritance dispute. This is the only time Nils Povelsen is mentioned in this dispute. Without presenting any date, the following can be announced about Peder Jensen Graa. He has probably lived in Önnestad [evidence from the priest Mr. Björn in Önnestad is mentioned, likewise from Göinge county council]. Peder Jensen Graa has a sister who lives in Engemöllan by Vä about 1630. His son Jens Pedersen Graa was born on February 2, 1600. After his mother, Peder Jensen Graas (1st) wife was held change March 17, 1603. Jens Graas sister Bente Pedersdotters mother was named Carine Povelsdotter, she was probably also Jens Graa's mother. Peder Jensen Graa was then married (2nd). This wife is not named, but Jens Graa and Bente are mentioned to have deceased half-siblings. Peder Jensen Graa then got married (3rd) with Agde Olufsdotter, who is the stepmother with whom he disputes. Inger Pedersdotter's son Morten Hanssen agrees with Nils Povelssen March 17, 1623, whose father [Povel Nilsen] was the guardian of Morten. Peder Kremmer agrees with this connection Nils Povelsen, and on March 4, 162 [3] we are told that this is the case for camps he conducted but married her. None of the aforementioned disputes will return to barter or town hall court. Rasmus Piil never met, nor did Nils Povelsen, whose camp goals are never dealt with but quickly dismissed with imposed fines. At Kristianstad exchange on April 9, 1627, Nils Povelsen becomes the guardian of the girl child Inger Mortensdatter, who resides with Peder Christensen [Kremer]. Councilman Nils Povelsen is the guardian of Blessed Inger Per Kremmer's heir Inger Mortensdatter on January 16, 1632 and February 22, 1632. February 20, 1637, a letter of change is presented, after Blessed Peder Christensen's wife Blessed Inger Pedersdotter, dated 1627. The girl child Inger Mortensdotter is probably the granddaughter of Inger Pedersdotter in her 1st marriage to Hans Bardskär. The goldsmith Nils Povelsen is said to be the guardian of Morten Skräddare's children 12 May 1628 and whose mother 10 December 1627 is named Elsa Morten Skräddares.

Nils Povelsen with wife Ingeborg who appears in a case on 30 July 1624 [Kristianstad council house book p.112-113], where Daniel Henricksen from Ystad agreed with Nils Povelsen's boy Trued for having cut him down so that one jaw hangs down. The brawl takes place at Nils Povelsen's and his wife Ingeborg's farm in Kristianstad where Daniel Henricksen had his horse installed [Kristianstad council house book p.139]. On August 21, 1626, Nils Povelsen deposited the goldsmith and Nils Povelsen the elder citizen in Kristianstad [Kristianstad council council p.139]. September 15, 1631 also mentions a Nils Povelsen Brödt [Kristianstad council house book p.270]. In other words, there were at least two different Nils Povelsen in Kristianstad at this time.

Nils Povelsen is mentioned as "director" for the Spanish company March 24, 1628 in Kristianstad exchange. Nils Povelsen claims debts to the company on 20 April 1629, so also 15 June 1629 when he is mentioned as the goldsmith Nils Povelsen. The Spanish Company and Nils Povelsen occur on the following date, 24 March 1628, 20 April 1629, 18 May 1629, 8 June 1629, 15 June 1629, 2 November 1629, 9 November 1629, 8 February 1630 , June 14, 1630, October 18, 1630, November 15, 1630. It appears that the Spanish company had a ship sailing to Spain and that Spanish salt was imported. November 2, 1629, it is mentioned that Nils Povelsen handled the company's accounts from May 1624. On June 14, 1630, Nils Povelsen and Claus Povelsen are mentioned as "directores" for the company. However, it seems that it was closed down in 1629.

Nils Povelsen is mentioned as councilor for the first time in Kristianstad exchange 25 April 1631. Councilor Nils Povelsen agreed on 16 January 1632 Mayor Olof Svendsen for Kristianstad exchange to testify how much he paid for the two sheds, which belonged to Peder Kremmer then his wife Inger died and for whose heir Nils Povelsen is a patron, Olof Svendsen says that in the presence of Nils Povelsen and his uncle Rasmus Pills, he bought the bids from Peder Kremmer for 200 erased dollars. Nils Povelsen is mentioned as Rasmus Piil's son Peder Rasmussen's guardian a number of times, including 29 February 1635 and 28 March 1635. In Kristianstad council house book 1 April 1636, Councilor Nils Povelsen has consented Susanne Mickelsdatter, who is Ramsus Piil's stepdaughter of Blessed Rasmus Piil's son Peder Rasmusson's behalf.

The councilor Nils Povelsen is the guardian on February 21, 1634 for the blessed pot steward Olof Nilsen children Nils and Svend [Kristanstad Rådstugubok p.427]. The widow is married to the potter Hogen. Mayor Nils Povelsen sold a horse miller on October 13, 1634, to the barrister Christen Nielsen on Araslöv. The horse mill was located north and next to Aage Svendsen farm and place next to the field road to Nils Povelsen's farm. Councilman Nils Povelsen and others are in favor of illegal logging, as well as for a pig he took from the Prophet's house at Kristianstad exchange on January 8, 1636. Councilor Niels Povelsen should be the guardian of Blessed Rasmus Piil's son Peder Rasmussen on April 1, 1636 [Kristianstad's council permit s. 673], see also April 8, 1636, June 17, 1636, November 4, 1636, December 2, 1636, and January 20, 1637, where it appears that Rasmus Piil's wife Lucie has been married before and has with this husband the children Susanne Mickelsdatter and Hans Mickelsen. Councilman Niels Povelsen and others is consented to illegal logging, as well as to a pig he took from Profossen's house on January 8, 1636 [Kristianstad council law, p. 607-608].

At Kristianstad's exchange March 2, 1640, March 30, 1640 and June 22, 1640, a case was passed where Hans Pedersson's castle writer at Kroneborg has agreed to the mayor and council of Kristianstad in 1619 or their heirs, to be held responsible for the absence of a guardian to his wife Anne Pedersdotter when her father Peder Povelsen died. He also questions the shift and the payment of debts. Among the agreed February 16, 1640, the goldsmith Povel Nilsen's heirs Nils Povelsen and Peder Povelsen , Anne Povelsdatter and her sister Sisse Povelsdatter, with their legal wrath. Councilor Nils Povelsen points out on his own and his co-heirs 30 March 1640 that his father goldsmith Povel Nilsen was buried 4 days after Peder Povelsen and that the matter is therefore unavoidable. Councilor Nils Povelsen presents evidence written by Nils the watchman in Kristianstad that Peder Povelsen with both his children was buried October 29, 1619 in Vä and that the goldsmith Povel was buried November 7, 1619. On April 20, 1640, Peder Povelsen's widow Ursula points out that she asked Nils Povelsen to look through Peder's accounting books and that he traveled with her to well-to-do Otte Guinea pig to value the silver that Peder pledged with him. On June 22, 1640, all of the above were again agreed, but this time Anne Povelsdatter is mentioned as Anne Ditmer's error preparer.

Councilman Nils Povelsen sold on September 6, 1641, a garden south of the city to D. Johann Melchior Hupfauff and his well-off wife, Ursula Sophia von Dinstet. Of course, we meet Nils Povelsen many more times at the barter, as counselor and in his own affairs, as well as guardian. At the barter on December 5, 1642, councilor Niels Povelsen is mentioned as guardian of Kistene Biørnsdatter receives her mother's inheritance after ally Karen Jacobsdatter from Christen Dönich.

Councilman Niels Povelsen lived on August 7, 1643, but is mentioned as Blessed October 30, 1643 in the Bytinget. Building drawing after Nils Povelsen and wife Ingeborg Lydersdotter were held on December 4, 1643 and December 5, 1643 [Kristianstad City Archives FIIa: 1]. Then inventoried, registered and valued, living and goods, cashed in and paid out after the late Blessed Nils Povelsen prejudice in Kristianstad and his blessed wife Ingeborg Lydersdatter. Their surviving children Pouel Nilsen, Margrete Nilsdatter, Maren Nilsdatter [whose guardians are well-respected Claus Kahle], Sisse Nilsdatter, Ingeborg Nilsdatter, Karen Nilsdatter and Elne Nilsdatter who are recently dead [their guardian well-respected goldsmith Jörgen Hansen Föch]. It can be seen from the listing that Nils Povelsen was also a goldsmith. The estate was wealthy, including farms in Kristianstad and land in Nesby and Nosaby. Total assets were 2,606 dollar coins, but the debts were also very large, a total of 2,056 dollars coins. The children had 549 dollars left to share. Furthermore, it appears that Nils Povelsen's brother was the goldsmith Peder Povelsen. Probably also a Claus Povelsen brother to Nils Povelsen and possibly Ditmer Henricksen is related. The building listing also mentions a recently deceased sister to Nils Povelsen, Sidsel Nilsdatter. Further on the building drawing: The farm in Kristianstad was valued at 1,000 dollars in addition to the tile stove. The land in Nesby and Nossby land: 1 third land - 300 dollars and 1 quarter land - 200 dollars, and the houses that stand on the same quarter land - 30 dollars. Total farm and land - 1,530 dollars coins. The rich estate contains a variety of tools, including goldsmith's tools, animals, textiles, tin, brass, copper, the silver was valued at 246 dollars. There was plenty of furniture, chests, coffin benches, tables and chairs. Of interest may be the following furniture group: A red oak cabinet with 4 rooms, a small red cabinet with lock and a red table. Nine books were found, including a Jewish law book and a German book on potentates. Worst of all, a lot of clothes are not taken up, but Nils Povelsen owned, among other things, a brown velvet night cap with gold nods, a black velvet hood, black dress pants, a "flowered" life and a black dress coat. Ingeborg owned, among other things, a black dress shirt with string, a "camel's" skirt and a green coat lined with graywood. In the plotting, settlement is made for Nils recently deceased sister Sidsel Povelsdatter and for which Nils was obviously a patron. Here it appears that Nils Povelsen managed Sidsel's inheritance of 186 dollars,

In Kristianstad exchange July 12, 1658, the riding bailiff Lennart Jensen agrees with Svaneholm Claus Kahle, guardian of Lennerts wife Margrete Nilsdatter's inheritance party after her parents Councilman Nils Povelsen and his wife. The case states that Lennart and Margrete should be consecrated around 1656. In Kristianstad exchange 23 September 1650, Henrik Berlin gave up his wife Maren Nilsdatter's fathers and maternal inheritance to her guardian Claus Kahle. Henrik Berlin has probably been married before. According to the building registration register for Kristianstad, the building drawing was kept after the tailor Henrik Berlin's wife Karen Jensdatter in 1649. In the same year Henrik Berlin and Maren Nilsdatter are married.

Goldsmith Peder Povelsenis known from 14 March 1622 in Rådstuguboken. Peder Povelsen was married to Birgete Jørgensdatter who is known as his wife from 29 June 1629 and 10 March 1634 in Bytinget. At the exchange on 16 February 1640, Per Povelsen and his wife Birgitte Jørgensdatter manage a farm at Hästetorget to well-born Jochum Beck. The letter of purchase is mentioned to be signed by Peder Povelsen's brother Niels Povelsen. They are mentioned as brothers 12 March 1627 and 7 March 1634 in Bytinget. The goldsmith Peder Povelsen is mentioned in his brother Nils Povelsen's building record in 1643 [see above]. Peder Povelsen also dies himself in 1643 and a building record after him was executed on December 14, 1643. Peder Povelsen left the widow Birgitte, but no children are mentioned. This Peder Povelsen is easily confused with an older name mentioned in the 1590s and who was also a goldsmith [about the older names, see below].

Sissel Povelsdatter is mentioned in the brothers Nils Povelsen's and Peder Povelsen's building drawings in 1643 [see above]. Nils Mogensen Pottemager renounced his wife Elene Ditmersdatter on behalf of Hennrik Kockum, for paternal inheritance after her blissful father Ditmar Henningsen Feldbereder, and for a small inheritance party after her maternal sister Sidze Povelsdatter in Kristianstad exchange 11 August 1662. After the death of his father Paternal 16 as guardian in the year Sissel Povelsdatter, but it renounced the guardianship at the Bytinget on September 9, 1622, and the guardianship was taken over by brother Nils Povelsen. The unmarried Sisse Povelsdatter is mentioned to be dead shortly before the councilor Niels Povelsen in the drawing after him and his wife Ingeborg December 5, 1643.

Karen Povelsdatter is mentioned in Kristianstad Byting on October 22, 1627, when Peder Povelsen agreed to 116 dollars, which his sister Karen Povelsdatter borrowed for their best from Per Olssen in Vinslöv. Karen Povelsdatter is also mentioned in Kristianstad Byting on March 10, 1634, when Peder Povelsen agreed to goods that his wife Birgete and his sister Carine took out from Johan Christensen. Karen Povelsdatter is not mentioned among Povel Nielsen's heirs on 2 March 1640 and should therefore have died earlier.

Elene Povelsdatter is mentioned as the daughter of Povel Nilsen only in research by Tor Flensmarck in Vä [and should be regarded as uncertain].

Boel Povelsdatter is mentioned as a daughter of Povel Nilsen only in research by Tor Flensmarck in Vä [and should be regarded as uncertain].

In Vä, during the 16th and 1600s, there were a number of goldsmiths with elements of the name Povel. 1584 and 1602 are mentioned as goldsmiths and councilors in Vä Peder Povelsen and his brother Anders Povelsen. In the Skånegenealogen 1998: 1 Tor Flensmarck writes that in 1584 Vä Anders Povelsen, Peder Povelsen, Nils Pedersen Goldsmith, Aage Pedersen Goldsmith and others were listed. In another paragraph, Tor Flensmarck writes that maybe "The Povel Sons Goldsmith Family in Vä" may be counted as Povel Pederson's [Graa] married relatives. Anders Povelsen also appears 1592-1606, Povel Goldsmith 1594, Peder Povelsen 1594-1598 and possibly also Klaus Christensen who is a village writer 1595-1601. Peder Povelsen is also registered in the Bockebodar Register 1584. Tor Flensmarck believes that there should reasonably be a relationship between these Povelsons and Povel Nilsen, possibly / probably they are uncles of Povel. Not only the name suggests this, but also that they were all goldsmiths and councilors in precisely Vä. The theory that the Nils Pedersson Goldsmith mentioned below would be Povel's father is supported by the fact that Povel evidently had a son Nils and a son Peder. In the so-called Silver Bible, the extensive article on Swedish goldsmiths from the 16th century onwards, Anders Povelsen is mentioned as a possible son of Povel Pedersen Graa. Anders Povelsen was admitted in the tax year of 1584 and in Västad's inheritance book 1591-1606, village bailiff 1595-1599, is mentioned no later than August 22, 1606. Anders Povelsen's seal with the initials AP has been found, corresponds closely to the stamp 8138. There is also a Hans Povelsen who was a goldsmith and had the stamps 8144 and 8145. Hans Povelsen was mentioned in the tax length 1613, Nils Pedersen is mentioned in the 1570-1615 in the so-called Silver Bible, the extensive landmark that exists over Swedish goldsmiths from the 16th century onwards. A Nils Pedersen paid a land debt to the church in Vä about 1570, and was probably identical to the Nils Pedersen jeweler who is admitted in the 1584 taxation period. He probably moved to Kristianstad 1614-1615 and died February 24, 1618.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kristianstad byting 1632 d. 16 jan. Lhene bor då i Vä. 1630. Sonen Jens Pedersen Graa föddes d.2 febr 1600. Efter hans moder, Peder Jensen Graas (1:a) hustru hölls skifte d.17 mars 1603. Jens Graas syster Bente Pedersdotters moder hette Carine Poffuelsdotter, hon var troligen också Jens Graas mor. Peder Jensen Graa blev sedan gift ( 2:a). 139) avlägger bl.a. 1656. I Kristianstad byting d.23 sept.
