THE 220 TONS SHIP WAS CO-OWNED BY JOSEPH BELT JR. , OSBORNE SPRIGG, THOMAS CLARKE, ALL OF MARYLAND. A NOTATION On THE SHIP'S REGISTER STATED THAT THE ' FRIENDSHIP" WAS TAKEN from SUBJECTS OF THE FRENCH KING BY THE " SNOW WARREN" COMMANDED BY ALEXANDER KATTUR, AND THE SCHOONER " GEORGE" COMMANDED BY JOHN DOUGALL, BOTH BEING SHIPS OF WAR DULY COMMISSIONED."
