Biography
Noah Simmons was born 15 January 1739/40[1] in Kingston, Massachusetts[2] to John and Hopestill (Stetson) Simons.[3] He married Lydia Howland of Pembroke 27 May 1763 in Kingston.[4] She was the mother of his children Elizabeth born in 1764, John born in 1766, and Sylvester born in 1768. Noah then married Diana Keen 19 September 1771 in Duxbury.[5] She was the mother of his son Hezekiah born in 1772. Following the death of his second wife, he moved to Kingston and married Mary (sometimes listed as Martha or Molly) Sherman.[6] She was the mother of his children Diana born in 1774, Noah born in 1775 and died young, William born in 1777, Noah born in 1778, James born in 1781, Oliver born in 1782 and died young, Joseph born in 1785, Stevens born in 1787, Peleg born in 1788, Lydia born in 1791 and died young, and Martin born in 1794 and died young.[7] Noah died in Kingston on 30 May 1824.[8]
Date of third marriage estimated as between death of second wife on 7 March 1773 and about 9 months prior to the birth of child Diana (named after second wife) on 1 July 1774 minus 9 months is around September-October 1773. They had 11 children together.[9]
Noah served during the American Revolution as a private in Captain Samuel N. Nelson's company of Colonel Aaron Willard's regiment.[10]
