Noreen van der Walt (1929 - 2013)

Brief overview:

Noreen (83), was brutally attacked and robbed in her home in Westcliff, Hermanus, around 10h30 on 7th September 2013. She passed from her injuries three days later in hospital.

Noreen was at home with her husband Bernardus Rijcks (85), who is bedridden, when the perpetrator stabbed her a number of times with a knife. He escaped with R1000 in cash.

Bernardus managed to press the panic button. According to Lieutenant Fadila September, spokesperson for the Hermanus SAPS, no one has been arrested yet.

Additional Biographical Information:

Noreen was born in Kimberley on 13th September 1929. She qualified as a nursing sister in Cape Town and this is where she met Bernardus Rijks van der Walt, a student in architecture. They were married in Kimberley and lived there for a while, before moving and living for some time in Kenya and the then Rhodesia.
