Norman Ludwig (1949 – 2018)
Brief overview:
Retired elderly cattle farmer, Norman (69), who lived alone on his smallholding farm Valleisig, 10km outside Jobertina, was severely beaten during an attack. He died as a result of his injuries on Friday 5th October 2018. Norman's body, which was found by a friend at around 09h30, was lying outside the house near the kitchen door. Police spokesman Sergeant Majola Nkohli said it appeared that he had been beaten and hit over the head several times with a hard object. Although the house had been ransacked, there were no signs of forced entry, and the murder weapon was not found at the scene.

- A 22-year-old suspect of the Ludwig farm murder case will remain in custody until Friday, 2 November 2018 where he is due to reappear in the Joubertina Magistrate’s Court for a bail application after a brief appearance at the same court today.

- On Monday, 15 October 2018, Jason Witbooi (22) briefly appeared at the Joubertina Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder, but his case was postponed to Friday, 2 November 2018 for a bail application. Witbooi is accused of attacking and killing a retired cattle farmer, Norman Ludwig (69) on Friday, 05 October 2018, in his Valleisig farm about 10km outside of Joubertina. Witbooi was nabbed on Friday, 12 October in Louterwater, Joubertina by a team of detectives assigned to the case.
- Update April 2019: Witbooi, who escaped from South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg in December was been located east of the city‚ while two Eastern Cape escapees were recaptured thanks to an alert motorist. Mbongosi Mgoqi‚ 24‚ and Jason Witbooi‚ 22‚ were apprehended in the Storms River area on Saturday. The pair had escaped from the back of a moving police vehicle on Tuesday‚ April 2‚ while being transported back to prison. The escape occurred on the R62 and N2 on-ramp‚ near the Kareedouw and Humansdorp turn-off. Mgoqi was sentenced to five years' imprisonment on April 1 2019 on a charge of culpable homicide that occurred in August 2007‚ also in the Louterwater-Joubertina district.
