Nyakwabe (67), was murdered when three men with axes broke into her house in Cunningmore, near Hazyview, Nelspruit. Her husband Johannes was out herding his cattle at the time of the break-in. Nyakwabe's granddaughter found her deceased laying in a pool of blood.

The perpetrators hit Nyakwabe over the head with an axe, gagged her, tied her up, and pushed under the bed.
