Information given by Mark Christian, Iowa:
1. From ”Story county grave marker inscriptions” volumme 2 Howard twp. Published and for sale by the Iowa Genealogical Society: Roland Cemetery – Northeast Section – row 7 : 46. S. Mathison 1842 –1911 47. O. Mathison 1840 –1914 This is clearly the Ole and Sarah found in the 1880 Hamilton County, Iowa.
2. Looking at the marriage index on the Story County web page, the closest match to Ole and Sarah is Ole Matteson who married Sarah Halverson on 13 Jul 1872. Unfortunately, not much was recorded in the marriage register in those years. From Story County Iowa Marriage Register Vol. A3 page 43, we find OLE MATTESON age 32 married Sarah Halverson age 26 on 13 Jul 1872 by N. Amland, minister. They marriage license was issued on 03. Jul. 1872. The signed document was returned on the day of the marriage.
The Rev. N. Amlund was a pioneer Norwegian pastor at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City. I find no Mathison or name like that in an index to marriages in Hamilton County.
3. Turning to death records, we find the proof! From Story County Transcript of Deaths page 150, register number 149, death in Roland, Howard township: Ole Matison born 15 May 1840 age 73 years 8 months 7 days, widowed, born in Norway to Matias Kalleveg who was born in Norway and Kari Kallevig, occupation plasterer, informant E.T. Mathison, died 04. Jan. 1914 of ”Mitral regurgitation” attending physician Earl RICE signed 07.Jan.1914, buried 08. Jan. 1914 in Roland Cemetary, undertaker Alex Henderson of Story City Iowa. (The varying spellings of Kallevig/Kalleveg are as they appear in the register).
From the same source, page 104, register number 128, death in Story City, Serena Mattison born 26 Jun. 1842, age 69 years 6 months 22 days, married, born in Norway to Torres Utaaker who was born in Norway and Sarah Utaaker, occupation domestic, informant S.J. Nissa, died 18 Dec. 1911 of ” Pneumonia”, attending physician H. Haerem signed 20. Dec. 1911, buried 22 Dec. 1911 at Roland, Iowa, undertaker Alex Henderson of Story City Iowa.
