About Ulrich von Neuhaus, I.

BIOGRAPHY Oldrich I z Hradce was born about 1222 in the castle of Hradec Jindrichuv, the son of Vitek z Hradce. He and his wife Marie Magdalena von Hardegg they had seven children: Marie (a nun); Katerina (married to Jindrich von Chuenring); Vitek; Otto; Jan; Markéta (married to Stepán z Meisova); and Oldrich II (married to Mechtilda von Schaumburg). Oldrich I's marriage to Marie Magdalena connected the lords of Hradec with the nobility of the Austrian Danube area, as was the case with other south Bohemian nobles such as Vok I z Rozmberk.
Like his father Vitek, Oldrich filled an important position at the court of Przemysl Ottokar II, king of Bohemia. Oldrich fought for Ottokar at the battle of Kressenbrunn in 1260, in which Ottokar decisively defeated Bela IV of Hungary and thereby gained Styria. Later Oldrich was appointed to the important office of an under-chamberlain. At the end of the 1260s he left the royal court, and he is last recorded among the rebellious nobles siding with the new emperor, Rudolf I von Habsburg, against his rival Ottokar, who refused to acknowledge him. In the course of this conflict, Ottokar occupied the castle of Hradec Jindrichuv in 1277, and lived there for a short time. He was defeated by Rudolf and killed at the Battle of Dürnkrut (also known as the Battle on the Marchfeld) on 26 August 1278. Oldrich I died about 1292, and was buried in Hradec Jindrichuv.
