Ole Melbostad, son of pioneer parents Anders and Mattia (Sorum) Melbostad, was born in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, June 20, 1886.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the Bergen Church and at the time of his death was a member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church.
At the age of two years, his father passed away, leaving him and his infant brother, Arndt, fatherless.
His boyhood days were spent on the farm where he attended rural school. As a young man he became interested in mechanics and served his community at his favorite occupation as a grain thresher for forty years. He worked several years in Montevideo at the light plant and various garages and on road construction in Lisbon Township.
In the year 1922, he was united in marriage to Marie Hanserud. Since that time he has been engaged in farming near Clarkfield, where he had his home.
Although his health had been failing the later years, he had been up and about his duties daily.
A heart attack claimed his life Thursday morning, August 27, 1959, at the age of 73 years.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Marie; two brothers: Arndt Melbostad and George Grinager of Clarkfield; two sisters: Amanda (Mrs. Conrad Cornelius) of Clarkfield and Mabel (Mrs. Peter Larson) of Montevideo; also several nieces and nephews.
