Mrs. Olive Swan Baldwin was born February 21, 1840, in New Sharon, Franklin County, Maine (to Isaac Baldwin). She was married to her first cousin Jotham Baldwin on February 28, 1859. She removed to Livingston County, Illinois, in 1867 and to Ringgold County, Iowa in 1868, which has been her home ever since.

Her death occurred August 30, 1890, in the fifty-first year of her age. She leaves five daughters and two sons to mourn the loss of a loving mother. Her husband and a son and daughter have preceded her to the home of the blest. All the children except one daughter who lives in California were present to follow mother to her quiet resting place.

Her illness was long and severe but her confidence in God never wavered. She and her husband were both converted in Maine.

Another estimable member of the community is gone, and her place as a Christian friend and neighbor will not soon be filled. In her illness she was sustained and comforted by the presence of her Savior, and at her death she triumphantly "entered in through the gates into the city."

The funeral service was held at the residence, on Sabbath, August 31, by Rev. William B. Thompson.
