About Oliver Hansen Taagetorp
My great grandfather taught his sons carpentry. Beside being a farmer he made coffins. According to the letters his sons sent from America, most of them started out as carpenters. It took them one year to earn enough money to buy their own tool box. Luckily there was always someone that was willing to lend them one to start with. From the letters and family stories we get to know that Oliver as the patriarch could not forgive his daughter something, presumably she was pregnant when she served as a maid in Kristiania. Her brothers helped her and bought her the valuable ticket to a new life in America. She eventually married an Irish widower and became Mrs. Densmore. My great grandfather died from a stroke as he was painting the living room. The wallpaper with his unfinished painting is still to be seen at the farmhouse... Eli
