About Orlando Henry Moxley

Orlando was only three years of age when his mother, step-father and siblings left Fayette County, PA in 1818 for Waterloo County in Ontario. He spent most of his adult life in the Greensville-Dundas area of Ontario where he farmed and was also a cabinet maker. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. D.R.Rowan in Guelph.

Orlando was married twice. In 1835 he married Sarah Evans (Aug. 17, 1819-Jan.29,1841), who was buried in the Dundas Union (Old) Cemetery in West Flamborough Twp. Her tombstone forms part of the cairn in the cemetery. Orlando and Sarah had four children: (1) Louisa (May 30, 1836-Jan. 17, 1891) married Abraham Davis Green (1827-1902). Both are buried in Grove Cemetery, Dundas. They had six children, Laura Anne, Wesley, Bertha, Minnie, Brock and Orlando Blake.

(2) Laura (b. 1838) likely died before 1851 as she was not on the 1851 census of West Flamboro Twp., with her parents.

(3) William Henry (May 13, 1839-Apr. 16, 1922) married Jane Mitchell. Both are buried in Woodlawn, Guelph. They had nine children, Helena Adelaide, Orpha Jane, Louisa, Wm. Edwin, Agnes, Emma, Charles Ernest, Orlando Henry and Florence Edith.

After the death of Orlando's first wife, Sarah, he married Elizabeth (Moyer) Simons, (1817-Apr. 1, 1888), a widow, about 1842. She had a daughter with her first husband, John Simons, named Elizabeth Simons (Feb. 15,1835-May 23,1924) who married John McDougall Dunn (Sept. 14, 1847-May 18, 1923) on Oct. 20, 1869. He was a son of William Dunn and Flora McDougall, natives of Scotland. John and Elizabeth are buried in Woodlawn, Guelph.

Orlando and Elizabeth had seven children. (1) Abigal Adelaide (Oct. 30, 1843-June 11, 1923), married Daniel Richard Rowan (1846- 1927), both buried in Woodlawn, Guelph. They had one child, Orlando Eby Rowan.

(2) Helena Adelaide (Mar. 30, 1850-June 9, 1912) married to William Dunn (1845-1935) a brother of John McDougall Dunn named above. She is buried in Woodlawn, Guelph and he in Hilton Beach Cem., St. Joseph Island with his second wife.

(3) Marshall (1851-Jan. 1, 1913) married Rachel Maria McMann (1852-1946) and are buried in Tunis Cemetery in W. Flamboro Twp. They had two children, Rena and Harold Marshall.

(4) Joseph (1852-May 10, 1860)

(5) James Lawford (Aug. 29, 1854-Oct. 19, 1929) died in White Cloud, Wilcox, MI. On Mar.19,1880, he married Margaret Alexandra McDonald (1854-1928), who died in Stratford, ON but is buried in Forest Home Cem., Forest Park, IL. They had two children, Alice Elizabeth and Charles Robert.

(6) Harriet A. (b. ca1859) - alive on 1871 census but no further info is known.

(7) Annie Mann (July 2, 1864-Sept.26, 1871)
