About Mary DeKay
Daughter of Unknown and Delilah Moxley, Mary moved with her mother, step-father (Daniel Eby) and siblings from McClellandtown, PA in 1818 to Waterloo County, Ontario.
About 1827 she married Jeptha Gilbert DeKay (Aug. 2, 1802-circa1848), commodore, teacher, farmer, native of NY state, whose death date and location are unknown. Jeptha was the third teacher at the first school in Waterloo, erected in 1820 and currently a museum in Waterloo Park.
They had six children, a son and six daughters.
OBIT: At Brealau,on Thursday the 29th of December, 1892, Mrs. Mary DeKay, aged eight-six years and four months. The funeral will take place on Saturday, the 31st of December 1892, at one o'clock p.m. from the residence of Mr. John Burnett, Breslau, to Mount Hope Cemetery, Berlin, Ontario. Friends and acquaintances will please accept this intimation.
